Welcome to Moon Cast Anglers

I’m Captain Josh Checkeroski. I’ve been a fly fishing and light tackle guide for 20 years. Out of all the places I’ve fished I have decided to call Islamorada my home. No other place offers such diverse and exciting fishing. From catching bonefish in the flats to snook and giant tarpon in the backcountry, Islamorada has it all. I love teaching beginners the sport and helping seasoned anglers tune in their techniques.

Popular species include Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Snook, Redfish, Jacks, and Snapper. Whether you want to catch your first saltwater species or hunt permit on the flats, I guide both beginners and experts and look forward to sharing my years of guiding experience with you.

The Contender 25 bay

In addition to our 18 Hells Bay Marquesa, we are now offering the 25 bay to accommodate larger groups. This boat can comfortably fish up to 4 anglers in just about any conditions. This boat is amazing at fishing reefs, backcountry and bridges.

Fly fishing and light tackle fishing in the Keys is truly amazing. Not only do the fish pull hard, but you’re in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Sight fishing to Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit is the reason I moved to the Keys. These fish offer challenges and the reward is worth every minute of it.

I use the best gear in the business.

My fishing method of choice is the fly rod. I tie all of my flies for myself and my guests. If you are new to the sport of fly fishing or want to try something new I can get you up to speed and casting! I love teaching new anglers of all ages and skill levels the way of the fly!

As far as spinning gear, years of experience as an angler and fishing guide have taught me that the fly rod is not always the best tool for the job. At times weather conditions, type of fish, and topography can make fly fishing difficult. For this reason I also keep spinning gear on my boat and am happy to fish primarily spinning gear if requested.
